Townhouse Residence in the Upper East Side
Project Type
Townhouse Residence
This project involved the planning and design of an official consular residence for the Dutch ambassador to the United Nations, located on East 64th Street in New York City's Upper East Side. Designed for a family of four, the residence seamlessly blends cultural identity with contemporary design principles.
The concept draws inspiration from two iconic Dutch elements:
Piet Mondrian’s "Composition" Series: The abstract arrangement of forms influenced the architectural and interior design, integrating dynamic rectangular patterns throughout the space while maintaining clean and intuitive circulation.
Tulip Fields: A signature element of the Netherlands, reflected in the centerpiece skylight, designed to echo the layout and vibrancy of tulip fields, adding a unique and symbolic focal point to the residence.
The result is a sophisticated and functional space that merges Dutch heritage with modern aesthetics, providing a refined and welcoming environment for both diplomatic functions and family living.
